Pitaia cultivation has been gaining prominence in the countryside of São Lourenço do Sul, especially in the agricultural estate of Valnei Kath and Fernanda Lanius, where more than 300 feet of the fruit capture the attention of all.
Initially, only 30 seedlings were planted. However, the following year, the family expanded the cultivation, acquiring new seedlings and different varieties to promote crossings that would increase fertility, size and taste of the fruit.
Today, the rural property has approximately 300 feet of pitaia, home to eight different varieties: common white, common red, Cebra, Orejona, Nicaragua Gigante, Golden, Baby and Vietnamese White, from countries such as Vietnam, Israel and Nicaragua.
The Sítio Terra da Pitaia is part of the rural tourism route Caminho Pomerano. Visitors interested can schedule a direct visit to the property, following the flags by RS 265, towards the town of Boa Vista.
