Trails at Fortaleza Canyon

Explore stunning trails, panoramic views and exciting adventures.

The Cânion Fortaleza impresses with its imponence and exuberance, revealing itself along its 7.5 km and with a depth exceeding 1000 meters. Located in the Serra Geral National Park, 23 km from the center of Cambará do Sul, it is a geosite of the Geoparque Caminhos dos Cânions do Sul, recognized by Unesco. Its name refers to the format of the rocks, which resemble the walls of a strong giant, a true natural fortress.

Throughout the edge of the canyon, altitude fields predominate with little vegetation, presenting different tones depending on the season of the year — from intense green to pale. This variation offers diverse and stunning views at any time. From the top of the canyon, it is possible to spot the sea, which is only 40 km straight from the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, the Pedra do Segredo and the Cachoeira do Tigre Preto are additional highlights, which complement the grandeur of the Cânion Fortaleza.

The tour consists of walking the two main trails of the Cânion Fortaleza: the Mirante Trail and the Stone Trail of the Secret, totaling about 3 hours to complete both quietly.

On the Mirante Trail, with 3.5 km of extension, it is necessary to climb a hill that leads to the top of the canyon, offering a panoramic view of 100% of the canyon and, in clear days, also of the sea, of the Torres Beach and of Catalan cities like Praia Grande, Jacinto Machado and Lagoa do Sombrio. At the top of this hill, the highest Tyrolean in Latin America starts at 1092 meters of altitude, with a 720-metre course offering an incredible and contemplative experience to the adventurers.

The Secret Stone Trail, also 3.5 km, stands out for two main points: the Black Tiger Waterfall, with more than 300 meters high, and the Secret Stone, a rock block of 5 meters high and 30 tons, balanced on a base of only 50 cm. On this trail, it is necessary to cross the Black Tiger Rice, but in days of normal water level, it is possible to walk through the stones without wetting feet.

It is important to note that both tracks feature climbs, descents and river crossings, which may not be suitable for older people.

The ride value includes 4x4 vehicle transport from the centre of Cambará to the National Park, local driver monitoring, activity insurance and mineral water. National Park ticket is not included.
